Greetings everyone and warmest of springtime cheer!
We are excited to announce that May Day in the Park continues into its 5th year since the pandemic caused what was before to halt.
Since 2021 we've seen a growth of new arts programming on May Day Sunday in Powderhorn Park including autonomously organized sound stages, mixed-medium art pop-ups, protests, mutual aid, and continued effort to put on the May Day Tree of Life Ceremony with its rich tradition we owe to the Heart of the Beast Theater.
The May Day Parade & the Southside Battle Train has continued to arrive at the park in the early afternoon with multiple generations of community members marching together in unison.
The Spirit of May Day is with us and although Metro Surge & the federal occupation has continued to happen since late last year, it strengthened our shared resolve & love for our neighbors that we see openly demonstrated at May Day every year in South Minneapolis.
This year we are committed to making this beloved event happen. We are committed to community joy, laughter, and whimsy. We are most importantly committed to keeping each other safe during and this takes effort from you as much as it does from us.
This year we've started to move most of the communications about programming on May Day to a community hub where people can get their questions answered. This community hub is also a platform utilized to fund the important infrastuctural parts that makes the event sustainable. Portapotties, park permits, street permits, insurance, security, harm reduction, and other costs we incur from the city come to mind and are in the scope of what this community hub has been organized for.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, please reach out to https://www.maydaympls.org/ or email [email protected]
We will continue to share information about upcoming programming in this FB event and also we are in solidarity with the ongoing organizing for the Friday May 1st International Workers Day of Action happening the same weekend.
All Power to the People & A Better World is Possible!
