Biography
Mike Gervais (AKA Mike G) has been a Minneapolis talent in the techno scene for 6 years and running. During this progression, Mike has made both a name and following for himself that quite a few have come to admire. His unique techno styling has both inspired and captured many and continues to creatively transform a sense of the music rarely touched by any other DJ.

Like any other talented artist, Mike has mastered his tools to perfect his form of artistic expression. Using 3 turntables, his Allen + Heath Xone 62 mixer, Electrix Repeater, and Ensoniq DP2 effects processor, Mike creates live mixes that are commonly described as flawless and endlessly entertaining. Mike has also been known to experiment with the Roland TR-909 here and there for a little added excitement. His future sets are planned to include computers to create even more of a completely unique set.

If you haven’t been lucky enough to catch one of the live performances, Mike G has released CD mixes that demonstrate his eclectic DJ talents. Mike prides himself on striving for complete musical uniqueness which is why his CD’s sound like none other you may have heard before. Like many DJ’s, Mike has released mixes that use an entire track from a record to build a mix. But what has set Mike aside is his ability to make the mix flow perfectly and tell a story like no other mixes comparatively. Mike G’s newest mix “More”, steps away from that method for the most part. Mike has truly taken on the role of a musical composer using computer programs such as Reason, Cubase, Soundforge, and Acid to create new sounds and effects that you probably won’t find anywhere else. Instead of using the entire track on a record, Mike simply takes specific parts of the tracks and uses his creativity to fill in the rest. Mike’s mixes are usually described as perfect and insanely clean which is a quality most DJ’s strive for. This perfection can only be achieved by editing, creating, and inventing which few DJ’s besides Mike take the time to do.

To make Mike the DJ that he is, he had to take in a large amount of experience and practice. Ever since Mike first began making appearances in 97’, he has been paying much attention to these influences. He joined a production company called Intellephunk in 99’ and joined forces with the founder DJ Centrific, and has been growing ever since. His journey has taken him all over the Midwest to play with people such as Richie Hawtin, Woody Mcbride, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Mark EG, Thomas Krome, Mark Farina, The Kooky Scientist, Gaetano Parisio, The Drop Bass Network, and all of the Minneapolis locals. He has helped throw parties such as Further, M-nus/Richie Hawtin events, and many local Intellephunk parties in Minneapolis. He has been booked in every major club in Minneapolis and was even highlighted in the electronic music magazine “Mixer” after an appearance at a Chicago event in April of 2002. He also plays every Tuesday night at Vital Vinyl and once in a while you can catch him at Plush at the Quest in downtown Minneapolis.

Mike’s music isn’t for just anyone though. Through the years he has been known for his obsession with Techno. In the beginning it was a mostly definite and abrasive style of the music you heard him play; a style that only true Techno lovers could understand and even play. Now, Mike has found more of an interest in lighter, synthier styles but he still hasn’t let go of the harder sounds many still enjoy so much. Regardless whatever he decides to play, you can always rely on it being new and inspiring. Don’t ever expect to be bored when you’re listening to Mike G.
